无论采用哪种涂装工艺，对基板的技术要求都越来越高。大多钢基彩涂板要求平整锌花，零锌花热镀锌钢卷或电镀锌钢卷，近年有增加以热镀锌铝，等合金镀层钢板作基板的趋势；贴膜彩涂板采用冷轧卷做基板，某些高端产品还以不锈钢做基板。无论采用哪种基板，对其表面，板形及尺寸精度均有很高的要求。
