pcm彩涂板良好的外观和优异的性能唤醒了建筑设计师和屋主显现屋顶的兴趣，屋顶再也不是仅仅满足遮风挡雨的功能而需要具有设计特征。用彩涂板制作的屋顶系统可以增添其他建筑元素的色彩，可以获得屋顶板板辐和接缝大范围变化所带来的效果。彩涂板建筑屋顶坡度较陡，典型值为3：12甚至更高，以利于快速排泄雨水。坡度小的屋顶不易看见，通常选用镀铝锌光板，对于坡度小于1/4：12屋顶，采用镀铝锌光板更加经济，事实证明经过20年使用后仍保持优异的性能。屋顶板通常不直接安放在屋檩上而放置在骨架上，骨架可以是木制或钢制。在屋顶板和支架之间通常垫放30磅后的纸或类似材料。部分彩涂板屋顶设计成屋顶结构直接接触的形式。屋顶板通常为扁平形状，10～24英尺宽。可以采用细小的纵向肋条提高强度和成型。使用穿透钢板紧固件或是隐蔽的夹件将钢板固定在骨架上。屋顶板叠放或纵向焊合在一起。焊接方式分为撑条(batten)式和咬合(snap-together)式，撑条式又可细分为传统的箱式、帽式和整体式。焊缝典型高度约3/4～2英寸。经咬合及传统箱式方法焊接的屋顶板采用隐蔽的夹件或固定在焊缝上的铁角紧固在骨架上，整体式焊接的屋顶板通过铁箍或隐蔽的紧固件固定在骨架上。活动的铁箍和铁角设计可以防止屋顶板热胀冷缩。
